Truly Turns One
One of my favorite things to do is shoot cake smashes! There's just something so cute about a little one dressed up and covered in colorful icing that gets me every time.
There were plenty of friends and family there to celebrate with her and it was a gorgeous March day. We enjoyed a nice lunch and some play time before opening presents and then it was time for the cake!
We set up a simple, Dr. Seuss-themed cake smash in front of a nice, big kitchen window and I was ready for it! We even did a nice photo of the cake before we put Truly down because it was specially made for her and it was absolutely adorable. Plus, they tend to tear into the cakes until they're unrecognizable!

Isn't this the cutest cake you've ever seen?
The set up was done, the cake had been photographed, and everything was ready for Truly to destroy it.
She played around in it a little bit but she just wasn't having it! We tried everything and we even let Mom, my best friend Aubrey, join her to show her just how yummy it was but she wasn't as interested as we were hoping she would be.
This is not something I'm used to! Even my daughter who hates anything sticky on her hands or face was covered head to toe in icing by the time she was done - literally.
Truly did have quite the outfit on and she was so cute that day that she probably just didn't want to get messy in front of her guests!

She may not have torn into the cake like we were hoping but my heart still melted as we spent the day with her, celebrating her first year of life.
This little girl means the world to me and it was an honor to be a big part of her life and I can't wait to watch her grow into who she is meant to be!

And then she finally indulged!
