An open letter to anyone planning a wedding:
"This is it!
All of the decision-making is over, the orders have been placed, venues booked, clothes tailored, and now the day that felt like it would never come is finally here: it's your wedding day!

There are many carefully planned details that will come together on this day to create a unique celebration of the love between you and your partner and it brings my heart absolute joy to watch these things unfold for you. As someone who has been through it myself, I completely understand the anxieties that come with the big day and how they will magnify at some times and disappear completely at others. Whether or not there actually is pressure on you that day, it sure feels like there is and it can be overwhelming sometimes.
But also know this:
Your partner is right there with you. That's what this day is all about, after all! They are there, feeling those same feelings and they are going to be there from this day forward.
You're going to wake up (probably unreasonably early), get ready with your closest friends and family, have the ceremony, dance at the reception, and then it will be the two of you together. The candles will be blown out, the chairs will be packed away, you'll eat all the cake, and later, as life moves on and you change and grow together, this day will feel like a distant memory.
When I think back to mine, I remember the butterflies I had in my stomach as I walked down the stairs to the aisle, I remember standing with my husband at the altar and staring into his eyes knowing that this is who I want to grow old with, and I remember dancing my tail off at our reception. I can still see the flowers and I remember the immense joy that I felt throughout the entire day. Those are the things that really stick with you when everything is over and real life comes back knocking on the door.

What I genuinely wish we would have done, and what I try to tell anyone that ever asks advice for their wedding day, is make time for each other. The wedding day is blissful but it is a full day. There is so much happening and everything has to run on time so you find yourself blindly moving from one task to the other and it goes by unbelievably fast. But seriously, even if it is just five minutes, try work in some alone time with your partner. Schedule it if you have to! It will be the best part of your day, I'm sure. You can take a minute to express your excitement, gratitude, happiness, or whatever it is you want to do but if you don't prioritize a moment with your new spouse, you may not get one during the day and you will have to wait until after it is over, when you're exhausted and your hair has had enough time to move completely out of place.
I am very lucky that my wedding day was absolutely perfect and only the tiniest things went wrong which made for priceless memories later but I really do wish that my husband and I had at least a few minutes to ourselves. Even a perfect wedding is chaotic and that would have been such a nice, peaceful break from everything around us so if you have the chance, I highly recommend making that a priority when planning out your wedding day timeline.
As a wedding photographer, I have a few different timelines I like to offer my clients when asked for help and they all include a small break for the couple! So

please, whether you are one of my wedding couples I get the joy of working with or you are a client of another photographer, be sure to ask for help with these things if you're needing some assistance with organizing your timeline.
And above all, for your wedding day, make sure you add "Have Fun" to your to-do list!
Seriously, add it!"
As a photographer that shoots weddings, I get to work with a lot of different people and I get to experience many stories of love, work, perseverance, and hope. But while I am around weddings and talking weddings all year long, my clients are doing this for the first time. Everything is new and each story is unique and I make it a point to recognize that and give each story the delicate attention and care that it deserves. For those of you who are married but still found yourself reading this post, what is the one thing you wish you would have made time for on your wedding day? And what is the one thing you remember most?
