Oh. My. Word!
This family is absolutely beautiful inside and out!
So when we initially scheduled their session, Jessica knew she wanted it to be in New Town but figuring out exactly where we wanted to shoot was a bit of a challenge because, if you've ever visited, you know that the entire place is BEAUTIFUL! After communicating back and forth a bit, we decided on the gorgeous willow trees near the back and I was thrilled. The day of the session, though, we wanted to keep our options open in case we passed another location that we would want to stop for so I ended up hopping in their truck and we all took off together! Normally getting there isn't super exciting and doesn't make it into the blog but it was worth mentioning for me because I think that some of the best moments are captured in spontaneity. We may not have stopped at a different location on the way there but leaving that open as an option has led to some incredible images that weren't planned or even conceptualized until we were presented with the perfect opportunity (remember Lindsay's amazing rainbow session!? Yeah, like that!)
I have to back up a bit and talk about the planning here too because my word, Jessica put together a stunning session. That's right - this wasn't me! The wagon, the balloons, the colors - everything was planned and executed by her and she really did an amazing job! Everything looked so wonderful together and I was beyond impressed by her creativity and I HAD to brag on her for a moment! I think that if you ever have the opportunity to stylize a session, you totally should because it adds an extra element of uniqueness and personalizes your images that much more.
We are so lucky to be in an age where we have access to fast technology and cameras that can freeze action so there's no need to rigidly pose our clients and make them feel more awkward than they may already feel. Add in some fun! Add in some colors! Add in activities! These make your photos so much more of a reflection of you and capture you how you really are, not how a photographer wants you to look. I also am a firm believer that half of your feelings about the final images you receive are influenced by how you felt when taking them. That being said, if you plan a fun and laid back session, you're more likely to love your photos because when you see them, you're brought back to those moments of laughter and silliness. There is so much that those little details can do for your session so if you're a fellow Type A, this is your time to shine! Get to planning!!
Jessica, Tommy, Lydia, and Grant - thank you all so much for choosing me to be a part of your family photo experience. I had such a great time with you all and I was completely enamored with your children - Lydia and Grant were an absolute treat and I am so grateful to have met all of you! You are such a wonderful family!
