Local Destination Portraits

How's that for an oxymoron?

Sometimes it's hard for us to get creative with our images when we constantly shoot in the same set of locations. Though it's nice to have a place that we know inside and out so we can expect certain lighting situations and backgrounds but after a while, it gets boring and I don't know about you, but I crave MORE!

That being said, not only have I been scouting new locations, but I've been brainstorming like mad! There are countless unique locations close by and I'm getting excited for this warm weather to stick around so we can get out there and play!

First up: Klondike Park.
Located roughly 14 miles south of Hwy 40/61, this park offers multiple landscapes for a variety of different shots and moods. My favorite aspect of the entire park is its white silica sand beach that rests around a lovely lake surrounded by beautiful trees and other foliage!
I first visited this park four years ago and I still find new trails and landscapes with each visit. During our most recent Klondike adventure, my fiance, daughter, and I stumbled upon a trail that led down a hill to a spot that overlooks Bigelow Creek, a branch off of the Missouri River, and it took our breath away! In one spot, we saw sand, water, foliage, and a westward-facing sky and all we could think of for the rest of the day were different portrait ideas and poses for this spot.
Along with water, there are multiple views of the trees, meadows, trails, and even a spot that overlooks the creek - as long as you can make it up the huge hill that leads to it!
I can't get enough of this park and it's perfect for any type of session I can think of! It's a beautiful place year-round and I've fallen so deeply in love with it that my fiance and I are leaning toward getting married there.

And then, of course, there's Creve Coeur Park for those of you further east.

Regrettably, the last time I had a client at this park, I didn't take any landscape shots so you'll just have to take my word for it - this place is GORGEOUS!
This is another park that offers multiple spots for portraits and it's in a great location - right off Hwy 364, close to Hollywood Amphitheater (formerly Riverport). You'll find sand surrounding water, a waterfall, trails, playgrounds, and foliage all in one spot with little walking required.
With so many features to boast about, what I love most about this park is its view of the sunset. Creve Coeur Park is situated perfectly for capturing the colors over the water, creating a dreamy backdrop for sessions of any type - which is my weakness!

So what do you say - want to try something new?

Either of these locations would be a great, family-friendly spot for photos of you and your loved ones!
