A Stunning Mother & Daughter Session at Klondike Park | Brittany Lynn Imagery LLC
When Cassie messaged me in March about doing a session for her and her mother, I'm sure you can imagine I was all in! Having lost my mother unexpectedly and traumatically, a session that captures the love and bond between a mother and daughter is something that is immeasurably special to me!
At first, Cassie wasn't 100% sure where they wanted to have their session so after some emails back and forth, we decided on Klondike Park because it seemed that it would compliment their outfits best and let me tell you - it did not disappoint! Their colors were a gorgeous palette of pastel blues, whites, and a pop of yellow and photographed absolutely beautifully! I also have to point out how perfectly their outfit complimented each other without exactly matching or taking away from the other. They totally looked like they were straight out of a magazine; the perfect mix of trendy and classic!!
We had a lovely time going for a walk through the park and capturing images along the way - which is my favorite approach to sessions! Going for a walk is something we can all relate to and most people seem to enjoy so to keep everyone comfortable, I like to go for a short walk around our location and converse as we work! Getting to know one another is another key element in keeping everyone comfortable and loose. I mean, let's face it, many of us are NOT comfortable in front of the camera!
I loved talking with Cassie and Paula about life in general. Cassie is a twin which, to me, made this session even more special. I imagine that, as a twin, because you have someone the exact same age as you, it isn't always easy to get one on one time with Mom so taking the time to plan some photos of just the two of them was so sweet and intimate!
Also, talking to Paula about Cassie and her sister getting older and the new season they are all in was such a lovely experience. Here I am, in the middle of them at 30 years old, and I am looking at things as both the mother and the daughter. I was a young daughter once, graduating high school and stepping into the adult world, bright eyed and bushy tailed. And now, I am a mother. Hearing Paula talk about what it was like watching her daughters grow up and graduate was such a special moment. I'll never forget what she said: she didn't cry the day of their graduation, she cried the next day when Cassie walked out of the house on her way to work. There was something so different and grown about her that next day and that really stuck out to me.
Additionally, as a member of Two Bright Lights, I now send out surveys to my clients when I submit their images for publication which is pretty neat. This gives them an opportunity to talk about the session from their perspective and also allows prospective publishers to formulate a story for their publication. When Cassie submitted her survey, I legitimately fell to tears:
" My mother had wanted a special present for Christmas last year, the gift of time. I decided to get a day where we could take pictures to remember that day forever. The shoot was just in time for Mother’s Day as well so I could have the photos printed for that day. Plus, my mom hates getting her picture taken so I knew I needed professional ones that I know she would be comfortable showing off."
Let me assure you as not only a mother but someone who has lost their mother - there is no better gift than the gift of time.
